WhatsApp has announced that the platform is going to end its service for such smartphones from 31 st December 2016.
After 31 st , Symbian Smartphone users can’t access WhatsApp on their devices. Even WhatsApp has started to inform to such users about non-availability of this platform for their phones. Even the messenger app already announced in February that it will end its service for several smartphones like as Nokia S40,Nokia Symbian S60,iPhone 3GS/iOS 6,Android 2.1 and 2.2,Blackberry(including Blackberry 10),and Windows Phone 7.1.
The company has revealed the reason behind this decision, on its blog. The company said, “While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.”
WhatsApp has started the testing of their new feature called as “GIF Image.” The company is going to provide this feature to its users soon. Currently, iOS has included the new update “Auto Play Image GIF” for WhatsApp Beta Users.
According to the company, “When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people’s use of mobile devices looked very different from today. The Apple App Store was only a few months old. About 70 percent of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia. Mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 percent of sales today – were on less than 25 percent of mobile devices sold at the time.”
